I had better get this post done quickly as it is already the New Year in parts of the world. Above is a chapel up in the hills in Spain. We did not know we were going there, and that is the fun of taking a wrong turn sometimes.

Life is full of amazing experiences and people. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad. As the paper said today, and as we know, for many people it has been a difficult year. It is a sad time for my family as my Dear Aunt passed away this week. Family and friends are gathering in Iowa to share and honor her memory of a long life (95) well lived, setting an example for many.

What a beautiful setting for the chapel with views at sunset of the surrounding countryside covered with orange groves.

We would have never have seen this if we hadn’t ventured off the main road and then taken a wrong turn. So maybe if things in life aren’t going the right direction, maybe that is OK? It is not always the destination, as they say, but the journey.

Another sunset in France at the Pont Du Gard bridge.

The bridge was built in 50 AD by the Romans as an aqueduct to carry water from the spring near Uzes to the city of Nimes. It was in use until the 6th century.

Some of the arches at the end were removed for other building projects over the years, but for the most part the bridge remains intact and you can still walk across the bridge. Quite a feat of engineering and a lasting legacy.

Crossing the Rhone river on a foggy morning. What lies ahead, what will be our history, our legacy for 2012?

Adventures await, scary and exciting at the same time.
Thank you for reading this blog in 2011! and wishing you the best as we cross the bridge into the new year!

We had some of those "wrong" turns:)
Sorry about your aunt, Jane. It sounds like she leaves a legacy. And wow you got to see the famous viaduct with the double row of arches!
Have a Happy New Year in the UK -am curious if you hold to some traditions (US or English)?
Thank you Emille, yes my aunt does leave quite a legacy.
The viaduct was even more impressive in person than it is in pictures and os glad we took the time to see it.
We don't follow any New Years traditions really. Just try to stay awake until midnight now adays!
So sorry to hear about your Aunt.
Happy 2012 to you and your family!
Happy New Year to you and your family.
That is a perfect sunset to end 2011 and move towards 2012.
You are so right about the journey being the important thing!

Absolutely stunning.
Sorry your Aunt died so near to Christmas. Always seems to make it a sadder time. Reaching 95 is quite something though.
Wishing you a very happy and blessed year.
Magnificent post utilising a twin text & I was interested in one of your phrases that you mentioned :-)
Wonderful shots of the aquaduct, bridge and ... well just about everything.
Sorry to hear about your sad news, it looks like I am going to be looking after my Mother this year after she took ill over Christmas with a short hospital stay.
A Happy New Year to you.
Thank you friends for your sympathy and well wishes. Jay, I am very sorry to hear about your Mother but I am sure she will be in good care with you.
Thanks to each for your blogger friendship and let's hope it continues into the New Year!
I am so sorry to hear of your aunt's passing, but at 95 it was long life obviously filled with love. Who could ask for more?
